2#121 | Photograph album. Hungerford, Edward. Untitled (ships, shipping and port scenes in and around Sydney harbour). Sydney, Australia. c.1880s. Leather bound boards, photographic prints, engravings. The album is bound in black leather with gilt border on its front board. The album contains thirty-seven pages (folios) of black and white albumen prints and some commercially produced postcards. It also contains three loose prints and one clipping. The subjects cover ships and shipping on sydney harbour, views of the gap, views of Circular Quay, picnic scenes, Sydney streetcapes and buildings, a few views of New Zealand and Tonga, postcards from Great Britain. The front flyleaf has a printed inscription 'E. Hungerford'. Many of the photographs have written annotations or drawings around them. The photographs have been adhered to the pages with glue, often two to a page and on both sides of the page. Part of the collection acquired from the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron. |
