- "The WARREN Family came to Ireland via England from France. Theoriginal de WARRENNE name derives from an area (Varrenne ) or the riverGarrenne about 2.5 miles north of Dieppe.
The founder of this branch (Cork ) in Ireland was Robert WARREN anofficer in Cromwell's army. According to an old document in thepossession of the family, he came to Ireland in 1649, had the rank ofCaptain, and was then about 25 years of age. At the end of the war he gota grant of lands, signed by the Lords Chief Justices in Kilkenny Castle,Ireland, fo arrears of pay for past services. He made his will in 1660and names his wife Margery, and bequeaths lands in Co. Wexford to hiseldest son, William, then a minor.
