  By this time the spelling of the family name had become Conroy. Tomas, a businessman in Wexford, Ireland, retired and left for Charlottetown in roughly 1835 with 6 of his 7 children, the oldest son James having arrived there 5 years earlier, but he moved shortly after, with three of his children, John, Mary, and Nicholas, to Tignish, P.E.I. and settled on the farm now (1899) owned by his grandson Frederick Conroy. Three of the family, Thomas Jr., George, and Peter went to live in Peru, South America, where they prospered in business. Thomas Jr. is the only one of these three who is known to have left a family.
