- n 1938, aged 63, THomas Rawson Tusting was married at Kensington Registry Office to Shiela Margaret STEEN, aged about 26. She was the daughter of Lt. Col. Robert STEEN M.D., a retired Colonel in the I.M.S. (Indian Medical Services), who over a period of nearly 40 years practiced from an address in Old Broad Street, London. I find no birth records for Shiela, so suspect she may have been born in India. Thomas Rawson is again quoted as a geologist.
The pair appear together on the electoral register at an address near to his previous London base in 1945 and 1946, but Shiela alone at the same address for 1947 to 1950. They must have separated/divorced. There are no more records I find for him until his death in the Wallingford area of Oxfordshire in 1959. Shiela appears continuously in the phone book as Tusting from 1945 to 1953(unlike her husband), She remarried in 1953 (it would seem to a divorcee) and soon had a child. Both her and her new partner had connections with Fleet Street, and the trail continues through her old addresses, new addresses (residential and Fleet Street) and a third marriage for Shiela (to an AITKEN) to her apparent demise in Bromley in 1998.
You might like to know that I have now traced the baptism record of (Thomas) Rawson Tusting's wife Sheila, and she was indeed born in India. A shipping record shows she left with her mother in December 1914, apparently heading for Ireland. Sheila's father was then a Major in the Indian Medical Services, so the move would seem to be connected with the outbreak of war.
