Memorial for the registration of a Deed of Mortgage dated 22 nd October,1846 made between Arabella Atkin of Bishopstown, Co.Cork and JamesWilliam Atkin of same place, Gent,, concerning the lease of lands by themto members of the Tottenham and Newenham, families?Clonpriest,Coolcrenagh, Castletreasure, Casduff, and Barnhill then calledAtkinville. The lease was first underlined above and released on 22ndOctober, 1846 (Summary)
James William would have been the third eldest son of Walter and ArabellaDrew Atkin. The reference to "Atkinville" being changed to "Barnhill" (and later to Summerslea) may have some relevance to the fact thatArabella Drew Atkin is now shown as living in Bishopstown which is alsoclose to Cork City.

A Memorial of a Deed of Indenture dated 11 Oct. 1844 between ArabellaAtkin, widow of Walter Atkin Esq. of "Atkinville" in the County of Corkof the 1st part and Walter Atkin, student at law, eldest son and heir ofsaid Walter Atkin of the 2nd part and Richard Davis Garde, City of Corkof the 3d part re. A policy of insurance for 500 pounds? the beneficiarywas Arabella Atkin and Richard Garde was the Trustee. (A Summary)
The ATKIN Family had made the decision to emigrate to the United Statesof America. All members of the immediate family still in Irelandincluding Arabella ATKIN (mother) packed their belongings and sailed forNew York. It is not known if they all travelled together or separately,but the sons and daughters of Arabella, settled in the Chicago andIllinois areas.
Maybe Arabella ATKIN was missing her homeland Ireland, as ArabellaATKIN accompanied by her son Walter, his wife Margaret Hill and theirfamily of six children returned to England before March 1858 when yetanother child was born in London to Walter and Margaret. The othermembers of the family remained in America.
Eldest son Walter and his wife Margaret Hill ATKIN deided toemigrate to Melbourne Australia and they sailed there in 1859.
Arabella ATKIN widow of Walter ATKIN of Atkinville, Cork, died atSt. Clouds, Navan, Co. Meath on the 14th of March 1866, a year after thedeath of her eldest son Walter in Melbourne Australia.
