  Margaret Hill ATKIN, the third child of Walter and Margaret HillATKIN was born in Dublin in 1848. Her baptism took place at St. Mark'sChurch, Dublin on the 22nd of November 1848. With the rest of the ATKIN family Margaret travelled to the UnitedStates of America, returning to England around 1857. Then there was theexcietment of sailing to Melbourne, Australia in early 1859, when parentsWalter and Margaret Hill ATKIN planned a new life in the Colonies. Afterthe tragic deaths of her younger sisters Elizabeth, Arabella andThomasina in Melbourne it must have been quite daunting for them all whenfather Walter ATKIN died in 1865, just six years after emigrating toAustralia. Margaret worked as a bookfolder at a printing works, possiblyABBOTT'S where her brother Walter was serving his apprenticeship in theprinting trade. Margaret Hill ATKIN married Thomas BLAIR on the 9th of October 1869at 5 Royal Terrace, Fitzroy, Melbourne. Margaret Hill was twenty-oneyears of age and it was noted that she spelt her surname as ATKYN on themarriage lines. Brother-in-law Arstide D'ASSONVILLE was one of thewitnesses to sign the Marriage Register after the ceremony. ( MarriageCerificate on the following page.) Margaret Hill and Thomas BLAIR had four children . Son Thomas Walterwas born at Emerald Hill, Melbourne in 1870, and died the following year1871. (Death Entry. Victoria. 1871 #1024). A daughter Jessie BLAIR was born at Emerald Hill, Melbourne in1872. Their second daughter Margaret Hill Atkyn BLAIR , named for hergrandmother, was born in 1873 at Emerald Hill. Wee Margaret died at theage of one year in 1874.(Death Entry. Victoria. 1874 #10340). Then a son was born in 1875 and named after Margaret's father,Walter Atkyn BLAIR at Emerald Hill, in Melbourne. Unfortunately WalterAtkyn died in 1888 at the age of thirteen years, in Richmond, Victoria.(Death Entry. Vic. 1888 #15571). Margaret Hill Atkyn BLAIR died at the age of twenty-five years inVictoria, Australia, in 1875. (Death Entry.
