Notes - Recalled by J R Tusting in 2017:
"In the factory at Harrold we employed Father and son Harry and Ernie Pettit, both stalwart men.
Ernie served in the Merchant Navy in the war and was torpedoed twice. He survived many days in an open boat off the coast of Africa and walked barefoot many miles along the coast to reach British territory.
He and Joan (Franklin) his wife had two daughters one of which Rene was specially talented and clever. She married a young clergyman who is now the Parish Priest of Southwold a very fashionable resort on the east coast. Previously they had served in a north country parish of mixed ethnicity and religion and had a tough time
They now have their first grandchild."
