      Father’s Mother’s Family History Tree
About 200 years ago the first of the family arrived in Colmanstown, Co. Clare (This town land is on the Shannon, directly opposite Glin, Co. Limerick). He had been studying for the Priesthood and then gave it up and possibly fled from the wrath of his clan. He came from NW Cork – and the clan was a small and hardy one which spent most of its time fighting. He took to farming in West Clare and his son did likewise. Pat, surnamed Baron (the Fairhaired) next of the line, apparently was a man of great business ability. He developed the salmon industry of West Clare and made a great deal of money at it. His son Simon carried on in a like manner. His sons, Pat and Edward, continued the fishing industry – but times changed etc. and I believe neither had the ability of their predecessors – and now this is not nearly the business that it was. Simon had four sisters -–one married Mr. O’Kelly Knocknahilla; one married Dr. Moloney West Clare and later Australia; one married Martin Dillon, Ennis; and the fourth married R O’Donnell of Co. Limerick – but lived in West Clare. Mr. O’Kelly, Knocknahilla was your grandfather; Dr Moloney was Mrs Freehill’s father; M Dillon was my Grandfather. G Aunt Ellen O’Donnell had no children.
