      IN THE NAME OF GOD, AMEN, the first day of November in the year of our Lord God, 1599.

      I, JOHN RUCKE, of the parish of Selling in the County of Kent, yeoman, being in good and perfect remembrance God be therefore thanked, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form following.

      FIRST, I command my soul into the hands of God my creator and redeemer and my body to be buried in the church of Selling aforesaid.

      ITEM, I give unto the poor 40 shillings of lawful English money to be distributed amongst them at the day of my burial by my executors.

      ITEM, I will and give unto THOMASYN my loving wife 40 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns, 20 pounds to be paid unto her within one month after my decease and 20 pounds to be paid unto her within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto THOMASIN my said wife, my best bedstedle, my best featherbed and flockbed, 2 of my best bolsters, 2 of my best pillows, 2 of my pillow coats, my best coverlett, my best pair of sheets, 2 of my best blankets, one joined chest and all things that shall be within the said chest at the time of my death, the which chest is within the parlor that I do use to lie in, my best brass pot, six pieces of my best pewter, my best stupuett, six pair of sheets, my best cow.

      ITEM, I will and give HAMMON RUCKE, my son, 20 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him or his assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto BARTHOLOMEW RUCKE, my son, 25 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him or his assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto VALENTINE RUCKE, my son, 25 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid to him or his assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto GABRIEL RUCKE, my son, 25 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him or his assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto THOMAS RUCKE, my son, 25 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto him or to his assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto JULYAN, my daughter, 15 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto ELLEN, my daughter, 15 pounds of money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto MARY RUCKE, my daughter, 20 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto DIONISIE RUCKE, my daughter, 20 pounds of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto ELUES [sic], my servant 20 shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto her within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto JOHN RUCKE, son of WILLIAM RUCKE, my son, 30 shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto him or his assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto THOMASIN RUCKE, daughter of the aforesaid WILLIAM, my son, 30 shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto MARGARET RUCKE, daughter of the said WILLIAM RUCKE, my son, 30 shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      ITEM, I will and give unto MARTHA, daughter of the aforesaid WILLIAM RUCKE, my son, 30 shillings of lawful money of England to be paid unto her or her assigns within one whole year after my decease.

      TOUCHING the disposition of all my lands, tenements and hereditaments which I now have within the parish of Selling or Boughton or elsewhere and within the realm of England, my will and meanings is they shall be disposed in manner following:

      FIRST, I will and give unto THOMASIN my loving wife, all that my messuage or tenement with all the edifices, barns, stable buildings, orchards, and the lands thereunto belonging with the appurtenances situate, lying and being in the parish of Boughton under the Blean during the time of her natural life. Provided always and my will is that she, my said wife, shall from time to time keep and repair the said house, or tenements with all the building thereunto belonging as often as need shall require and shall pay and do all such rents and services as shall be due to the lord or lords of their fee thereof, and she shall not strip nor waste the wood, trees or timber growing upon the lands aforesaid or any part thereof but only shall take such stuff or hedgeboote as shall be meet and sufficient for the maintenance of the hedges and enclosures.

      ITEM, I will and give unto HAMMON RUCKE, my son, and to his heirs forever one acre of land lying in Upton joining unto Sastage ground.

      ITEM, I will and give unto SYMON RUCKE, my son, and to his heirs forever three acres of land which I bought of Christofer Tyllman in Picken Field.

      ITEM, I will and give unto BARTHOLOMEW RUCKE, my son, VALENTINE RUCKE, my son, GABRIEL RUCKE, my son and THOMAS RUCKE, my son, and to their heirs forever, four acres of land and woods which I bought of Thomas Olyver lying in Perfit Field and being wood.

      ITEM, I will and give unto THOMAS RUCKE, my son, and to his heirs forever one acre of land which I bought of George Southouse lying in Jone Wood.

      ITEM, I will and give unto BARTHOLOMEW RUCKE, my son, GABRIEL RUCKE, my son, and THOMAS RUCKE, my son, and to their heirs forever, all that my messuage or tenement with all the edifices, barns, stable buildings or orchards and all the lands thereunto belonging with the appurtenances situate, lying and being within the parish of Boughton under the Blean aforesaid after the decease of Thomasin, my wife, unto the said BARTHOLOMEW RUCKE, GABRIEL RUCKE and THOMAS RUCKE, my sons, and to their heirs forever.

      AND I DO make and ordain TOMASIN, my wife, and BARTHOLOMEW RUCKE, my son, and ADAM RUCKE, my kinsman, sole executors of this my last Will and Testament.

      In witness that this is my last Will and Testament I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and year first above written.
